How Honest Can One Person Be?

I’ve always been told while growing up, ‘Finders Keepers, loser weppers’. But this article I ran across today just blows said statement away.  Long story short, a construction worker finds money in bathroom wall in the house he is renovating, he calls his friend and they can’t decide how to split it.  Ironically the ‘heirs’ of the money sue, and the two friends get nothing.  I would like to poll you on how you would have handled the situation.
